Queensland Moto Park (Wyaralong) wins national award
Market evaluation on recreational Trail Bike riding was undertaken and then a full Business Case Analysis was prepared to support the proposal to establish the public facility.
Recreational planners Strategic Leisure were involved in these initial negotiations for the procurement of the site through the Department of Communities (Sport and Recreation Services), Council of Mayors (SEQ), other State Government departments and Queensland Water Infrastructure to provide the land for the Facility. It is also a great example of changing attitudes within the motorcycling industry to be awarded real environmental credentials and to be recognised as having a legitimate role to play in the on-going management of the natural areas that we are able to access in south east Queensland Mr Weinert said.Queensland Moto Park (Wyaralong) is an initiative of the State Government and the Council of Mayors (SEQ) to provide safe and well managed riding areas, particularly catering for family involvement. The development of the park over the next three years will see a planned approach to site development and management on the 745Ha site to provide a multi-use motorcycling facility to cater for residents in South East Queensland, and beyond.Further testing and research has also been implemented as work begins on site to satisfy environmental and planning regulations as well as public and community concerns such as noise abatement. The overall Master Plan carried out extensive site investigation studies for the proposed Wyaralong Facilitys day-use and camping areas in the new recreation hub of the Scenic Rim.
Members of the local community and wider motorcycling community have also invested time and resources to bring this proposal into fruition. Extensive revegetation opportunities and detailed management criteria are also being developed to ensure the natural character of the site is retained and enhanced over the development process. We dont want to lose the intrinsic values of why we like riding in these types of areas, which is why we have taken the approach to manage and educate the wider motorcycling community about the reasons we have done particular things on site. Seeing is believing said Mr Weinert. One major compliance requirement is to ensure Catchment Management Areas are identified and protected on site as the park is adjacent to one of Queenslands newest water catchments, Wyaralong Dam.Motorcycling Queenslands General Manager Lindsay Granger said the facility will be a well managed, safe, fun, and family friendly riding park with a dedicated commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural environment & natural site aesthetics. We have taken the planned approach for an active participatory role to help promote opportunities for the riding public and sports people that we represent said Mr Granger.Stage 1 of the works, due to be operational by late 2011, entails a world-class off-road motorcycle venue designed by some of Australias leading experts in the field.
The facility will offer a wide variety of motorcycling options for the varying disciplines of off road riders of all ages and skill levels including trail riding , junior and beginner tracks and trails, enduro, motocross, supercross, freestyle motocross, and trials riding. For more information on Queensland Moto Park (Wyaralong) vistit the MQ Frequently Asked Questions
