New Video blog - Indonesia Part 2
With a week of obstinent rain, no one thought it was going to be possible to even do a Freestyle show and it certainly looked the case when we arrived at the event on Saturday. The track was a quagmire, with mud 6 inches deep from start to finish. It didn't improve anybody's spirits but we are here to do a job at least. The downramp had tarps put on it, so thankfully all the rain through the week didn't soak into the downramp too badly. The run up had to go through the pit area, and one that was just slop, something of the consistency of melted chocolate icecream, it didn't look promising. I managed to get the excavator driver to dig a 50feet trench where we came across moist dirt, but at least not sloppy mud. This worked for about 5 jumps, or essentially until Mitch tried to jump 50 feet for his first jump and he only went about 35 feet. With massive wheel spin all the way up the ramp, Mitch found himself up to the swingarm in the back of the downramp with a hell of a thud. Thankfully no broken bones and he was sweet. For the show, we found Bamboo 'red carpet' to put down to try get the mud off the tires. It worked for about 10 minutes until all of the crowd proceeded to walk all over it and make it even slipperier than the dirt under it.The first show was good, the second show was real ordinary and I just gave up. Realistically I would never ride that type of set up at home, but I managed to do it here and get out alive so I'm happy. Then we went on a massive 5 hour trail ride through the jungles of Malang. Last year I had the best experience riding with the Mayor of Batu or Malang, Mr Edy, and this year unfortunately he couldn't make it to ride with us, but he let us borrow his bikes and I could get the boys to experience what we had last time. This time we did have a massive night the night before for my birthday, but we certainly got on with the 5 hour job at hand pretty quickly. It was unreal, a lot of wide open riding and there was still some good tight riding as well. The cool part was going through villages that had already pre-prepared rhythm sections for us to jump. Their roads were perfect arena-cross styled jumps, that if you went fast enough could jump all through their towns. The people loved it. The sound of a bunch of roaring 450's coming had these tiny villager's wondering what was looming up on them. When we came through, it was like we were riding a FMX show for them with the cheering and clapping easily heard.Anyway, without further a-do, check out the video. Oh, and look for Mitch's crash - we here have probably replayed it 50 times and couldn't stop laughing about it and Mitch is ok, so don't stress he was just embarrased more than anything, haha. Thanks to SportsCamera.com.au for the Contour, unfortunately I didn't know I would be riding through a river by the 4th hour, and unfortunately this is when the video stops - drowned it. Oops, sorry guys!! But it is working again now!
