Broken bone? just replace with titanium!

Steve

Just reading on .com.au today, there is a new scientific discovery coming out of Germany that sees a polyurethane foam that is infused with titanium powder and binding agents. When the foam is then dissolved all that is left is the titanium in a foam-like structure. With some heating it then becomes stregthened and hey presto, you have yourself the basic building blocks for bone to start to grow to.

The idea is that the human bone can then grow in and around all the titanium foam areas. So I guess if I have a new niggling bone injury that just wont' heal, maybe I can stick some titanium foam in there and have a tightly knit titanium leg? Cool huh!For more information check it out: http://www..com.au/technology/doctors-discover-how-to-make-titanium-bone...

I guess that's why Rachael now calls me 'Mr. Google'. I may just keep updating with useless but interesting facts like this when I stumble across new stuff.
